FAQs
What is occupational therapy?
According to the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (2014), it is the “achievement of health, well-being, and participation in life through engagement through occupation.” Engagement of occupation meaning the “performance of occupations as the result of choice, motivation, and meaning through within a supportive context and environment” (AOTA, 2008). Occupations do not exclusively refer to work-related activities, it relates to any and all that occupy your time and allow you to be a functional, independent individual.
Professionals in this field examine who you are and what activities you participate in from multiple angles, such as what environment you’re in, your social network and support, all your roles and routines, your physical and mental health, and what tools you use. We look at all these aspects of your life and how they influence each other to ultimately enhance or enable your engagement as a fulfilled individual.
How does occupational therapy relate to ergonomics?
Occupational therapy is not limited to the medical field, it can be applied to all aspects of life and across the lifespan. Your role in your business is not an isolated entity, it’s deeply integrated together by the aforementioned angles, one of which may be negatively impacting your work efficacy without you realizing it. This field provides a wider scope to analyze and apply ergonomic principles to your unique background and situation.
Do you treat me as a patient?
